As recovery efforts continue across North Carolina following Hurricane Helene, both government agencies and local communities are stepping up to assist those severely impacted by the storm. In addition to the state’s North Carolina Disaster Relief Fund, which supports nonprofits in gathering emergency supplies, many local businesses and organizations have launched fundraisers and donation drives to help those in need, particularly in the Triangle area.
The Raleigh nonprofit Activate Good has compiled a list of volunteer opportunities and trusted sites in need of assistance. Below is a list of local businesses, restaurants, sports teams, and more where you can donate or contribute to help families affected by the storm.
Bad Daddy’s Burger Bar
Bad Daddy’s is hosting a supply drive at all of its North Carolina locations through Friday, Oct. 11. Customers can drop off the following necessities:
• Non-perishable food
• Hygiene products
• Baby formula and diapers
• Pet food and supplies
• Blankets and bedding
• Powdered hydration packets
Donations will be distributed across western North Carolina. A full list of locations is available at baddaddysburgerbar.com.
Bull City Burger and Brewery & Bull City Solera and Taproom
Locations: 107 E Parrish St, Durham, NC 27701 & 4120 University Dr, Durham, NC 27707
These establishments are collecting donations at both locations to be delivered via beer trucks to affected areas. Items accepted include bottled water, canned food, personal wipes, baby formula, and first aid supplies.
Carolina Hurricanes
Location: Lenovo Center, 1400 Edwards Mill Rd, Raleigh, NC 27607
The Carolina Hurricanes will donate all ticket revenue from their Oct. 2 game against the Nashville Predators to relief efforts in western North Carolina. Tickets start at $10.
Carolina Junior Hurricanes
Location: Invisalign Arena, 111-100 Competition Ctr Dr, Morrisville, NC 27560
Donation bins will be set up at Invisalign Arena through Oct. 4 for non-perishable food, cleaning supplies, baby formula, and toiletries.
Catering Works
Location: 2319 Laurelbrook St, Raleigh, NC 27604
Catering Works, Bloom Works, and Ella’s Popcorn are accepting donations through Oct. 5, which will be delivered to Operation Airdrop. Non-perishable foods, cleaning supplies, and pet food can be dropped off between 8 a.m.-3 p.m.
Dingo Dog Brewing Company
Location: 410 N Greensboro St #150, Carrboro, NC 27510
Dingo Dog Brewing Company is collecting supplies for animal rescue groups in storm-affected areas. Accepted items include pet food, litter, clean water, towels, and unopened veterinary supplies.
Duke University Football
Location: Scott Family Athletics Performance Center, 110 Whitford Dr, Durham, NC 27705
The football team is running a donation drive through Oct. 11. Items such as non-perishable food, bottled water, trash bags, and first aid supplies can be dropped off at the Duke athletics ticket office.
Eastcut Sandwich Bar
Locations: 3211 Old Chapel Hill Rd, Durham, NC 27707 & 1101 E Whitaker Mill Rd, Raleigh, NC 27604
Eastcut Sandwich Bar is donating 10% of all sales through Oct. 4 to the NC Disaster Relief Fund and allowing customers to round up their orders for additional donations.
MoJoe’s Burger Joint
Location: 620 Glenwood Ave, Raleigh, NC 27603
MoJoe’s will donate all sales from Oct. 2 to local organizations providing aid to storm victims in western North Carolina.
N.C. State Football
Location: Close-King Indoor Practice Facility, 4550 Trinity Rd, Raleigh, NC 27607
The football team is collecting supplies at the Close-King Indoor Practice Facility through Oct. 3 for delivery to affected areas.
Rise Donuts
All 10 Triangle-area Rise Donuts locations, as well as stores in Richmond, Savannah, Orlando, and San Diego, will donate 10% of sales on Oct. 5 to the MANNA FoodBank in Asheville, which is distributing food and water in western NC. Donations can also be made online through October.
Southern Sugar Bakery
Location: 4517 Lead Mine Rd Suite B, Raleigh, NC 27612
Southern Sugar Bakery is selling special “Our Hearts Are With Western NC” cookies, with all proceeds going to Samaritan’s Purse for disaster relief.
Triangle Young Professional Civitan
Various businesses around the Triangle are serving as collection points for donations to be sent to Operation AirDrop. Donation bins can be found at locations including Beer Tooth Taproom, Bond Brothers Beer Company, and Raleigh Brewing Company.
Trophy Brewing
Location: 207 Bickett Blvd, Raleigh, NC 27608
Trophy Brewing is collecting supplies at its Five Points location through Oct. 4 for Operation Airdrop. Accepted items include non-perishable food, cleaning supplies, and toiletries.
Union Special
Location: 2409 Crabtree Blvd #102, Raleigh, NC 27604
Union Special is donating a portion of all sales to World Central Kitchen, which is assisting those impacted by the storm in western NC.
Wegmans
Wegmans stores across North Carolina are running a “checkout scan campaign” for disaster relief. Customers can donate at checkout with proceeds going to Feeding the Carolinas, which supports relief efforts in 25 counties.
