From Friday, January 31, to Thursday, February 6, several special events and performances will take place in the area. The Krispy Kreme Challenge is scheduled for Saturday, February 1, along Hillsborough Street and Downtown, with road closures beginning as early as 4:00 AM and lasting until noon in some areas. Other notable events include concerts by Mary J. Blige at the Lenovo Center and Iris DeMent at Fletcher Opera Theater on Friday, January 31. The NC Opera will present Florencia en el Amazonas on January 31 and February 2 at Memorial Auditorium. Additional events on Saturday, February 1, include the Opening Reception | SEEK Raleigh at Birdland, free bike repairs by Oaks and Spokes at Peach Road Community Center, and sports matchups such as Clemson vs. NC State and the Los Angeles Kings vs. the Carolina Hurricanes at the Lenovo Center. The Governor’s Cup will take place on Sunday, February 2, also at the Lenovo Center. Finally, the Carolina Ballet will perform Boléro at Fletcher Opera Theater from Thursday, February 6, through Sunday, February 23.
