Why Gardening Matters for Youth
PowerUp NC, in partnership with St. Ambrose Episcopal Church, is inviting young community members to a special Youth Garden Workshop designed to inspire and educate the next generation of growers. The event focuses on regenerative agriculture, sustainable gardening practices, and the spiritual connection between people and the earth.
Participants will learn practical techniques for small-scale gardening—perfect for those without access to large yards. The workshop will include hands-on experience where youth will choose their own seeds, plant them in take-home containers, and learn how to care for them.
Spiritual Growth Through Soil
Beyond planting seeds, this workshop explores the healing and nurturing aspects of gardening. Facilitators will discuss how tending to the earth can also nurture our spirits, providing a sense of peace and purpose. St. Ambrose Episcopal Church’s involvement emphasizes the holistic benefits of connecting with nature—not just as an environmental act, but as a form of personal and spiritual care.
Why Join?
By the end of the event, participants will:
Understand the mission and work of PowerUp NC and how youth can get involved. Gain hands-on skills to start their own container gardens at home. Explore how gardening can support emotional well-being and spiritual healing. Leave with their own planted container, plus resources for continued learning.
Takeaway
This one-hour workshop isn’t just about gardening—it’s about empowerment, sustainability, and personal growth. Young people will walk away with practical skills, new connections, and a deeper appreciation for how tending a small plant can cultivate both community and self-care.
