The City of Raleigh is hosting several permitted special events from Friday, January 3, to Thursday, January 9. Animate! Raleigh will take place at Cabarrus Street and the Raleigh Convention Center from Friday, January 3, to Sunday, January 5, with event times ranging from 1:30pm to 9:00pm on January 3 and 4, and 9:30am to 6:00pm on January 5. Cabarrus Street will be closed between Gale Street and S. Salisbury Street during these times, and between S. McDowell Street and S. Salisbury Street from 6:00pm to 11:59pm on January 5. The Illuminate Art Walk 2024 will occur in Downtown Raleigh through Monday, January 6, from 4:00pm to 2:00am daily. While no roads will be closed, City Plaza, Market Plaza, and Fayetteville Street sidewalks will be used until 11:59pm on January 6, and Exchange Plaza will be available until 11:59pm on January 31. Other notable events include First Friday Raleigh on January 3, the Emancipation Day Breakfast at the City of Raleigh Museum on January 4, and various reenactments and concerts, such as the Young People’s Concert by the NC Symphony and hockey games featuring the Minnesota Wild, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Toronto Maple Leafs. The Raleigh Chamber Economic Forecast: Launch 2025 will be held at Fletcher Opera Theater on January 7, and the Notre Dame vs. NC State game will take place at Lenovo Center on January 8. The Rink event will continue at Red Hat Amphitheater through January 20.
