3. SWAG Items

4. 2025 Annual Work Plan

Not discussed.

5. Raleigh Historic Bike Ride

The Committee discussed planning and logistics for the May 2025 bike ride. Members determined that

the ride should remain on the first Saturday in May each year, to become a predictable and reliable date

for volunteers and participants to plan around.

To resolve some of the past ride’s logistical issues, the Committee considered new starting locations

other than Crank Arm Brewing, including available pre-ride bathrooms and a gentler route into

downtown. Options discussed included Oak City Cycling Project (bike-oriented with street parking and a

paid lot across the street), Transfer Co Food Hall, and the City offices at One Exchange Plaza.

The Committee discussed obtaining better audio equipment so riders can hear the site presenter along

loud streets. They discussed options such as obtaining individual accessibility devices with headphones

(similar to many walking tours), biking around with a bullhorn or small portable amp and speaker. Staff

will check with the COR Museum about the audio set-ups they use to conduct public tours. It may also

be possible to solicit a partnership with an audio equipment business.

The Committee considered offering a short (3-stop) and extended route (5-stop) for

beginner/intermediate rides. Potential RHLs discussed for the 2025 ride included: Water Tower, Sir

Walter Hotel, something on N Blount St, Leonard Medical School/Hospital, Tucker House. Including the

Sir Walter Hotel or other properties identified in the LGBTQIA+ study will be timely. Staffed noted the

desire to have a good mix of site types – some houses, some not – which would allow for a greater

variety of building selection for future rides as well. For future years, the Committee could consider

specific historic themes for the ride (i.e. America250, Black or LGBTQ history, neighborhood-specific,

public works, small houses, etc.)6. RHDC Social Media Calendar

Not discussed.

7. Other Business

Not discussed.

Without objection, the meeting adjourned at 5:00 pm
