Here’s what happened at the least meeting

The Raleigh Historic Development Commission’s (RHDC) Community Awareness Committee met on January 7, 2025, to discuss several initiatives. They announced the publication of eight new city webpages dedicated to local Historic Overlay Districts (HODs), featuring research documents, photos, and maps. A recap of a recent tabling event highlighted the success of RHDC’s collectible card series and popcorn giveaways.

The committee explored ordering tile puzzles featuring carousel images and updating an architecture activity book. Three work items for 2025 were assigned: tabling events (TraShanna Sanchez), social media management (Jon Anderson), and a historic bike ride (Shannon Johnson). The bike ride was scheduled for May 3rd with an LGBTQIA+ theme, focusing on five historic sites to be finalized in February.

Members gained access to RHDC’s social media accounts, and pending items included alternative historic designation methods, an LGBTQIA+ Historic Context Study, and RHDC’s 60th-anniversary merchandise. The meeting adjourned at 5:00 pm.
