New Report Examines Barriers to Assistive Technology

A new European Disability Forum paper says inconsistent funding and national rules prevent people with disabilities from obtaining necessary assistive technology.

The organization identifies restricted product choices, insufficient funding, gaps in expert advice and inadequate maintenance support. It also warns that people can lose access to familiar technology when moving between European Union countries.

The report underscores a broader accessibility concern: obtaining a device is only part of the equation. Affordability, repairs, updates and ongoing support also affect whether people can use it.
