Oak City Cycling Project has a full calendar of rides, classes, and social events for cyclists of every skill level. Whether you’re new to cycling, training for longer road rides, or looking to meet fellow riders, there’s something happening almost every week.

From mountain bike adventures and casual cruiser rides to free maintenance workshops and CPR training, here’s everything happening this month.

Weekly Recurring Rides

🚵 Every Monday – Mountain Bike Ride

Time: 6:00 PM
Meeting Location: NCSU Alumni Center

Hit the Lake Raleigh and Centennial mountain bike trails with fellow riders every Monday evening. This intermediate trail ride is rated 3 out of 5 chili peppers for difficulty and offers a great opportunity to improve your mountain biking skills while exploring Raleigh’s trail system.

Note: Rides are canceled if trail conditions are wet.


🚲 Every Tuesday – Social Ride

Time: 5:30 PM
Meeting Location: Oak City Cycling Shop

One of Raleigh’s most popular weekly rides returns every Tuesday. Expect approximately 12 miles at a comfortable pace using city streets and greenways.

  • Around 12 miles
  • Medium pace
  • Rated 2 out of 5 chili peppers
  • Great for recreational riders

🚴 Every Saturday – Morning Road Ride

Time: 8:00 AM (Sharp)
Meeting Location: Oak City Cycling Shop

Ready for a faster group ride?

This no-drop road ride covers approximately 30 miles with a 17–18 mph average pace in a paceline format.

  • Returns before 10 AM
  • Four chili pepper difficulty
  • Ideal for experienced road cyclists
  • First-time road riders are encouraged to speak with shop staff beforehand.

Special July Events

☕ Coffee Outside

July 3 | 7:30 AM

Kick off Independence Day weekend with a casual morning ride to the House of Many Porches at Dorothea Dix Park. Bring your favorite coffee-making gear or simply enjoy pre-made coffee while connecting with Raleigh’s cycling community.


🔧 Free Basic Bike Maintenance Class

July 8 | 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM

Learn valuable bike maintenance skills including:

  • Fixing a flat tire
  • Bike anatomy
  • Basic repairs
  • Preventative maintenance

The class is completely free, but registration through Eventbrite is required.


🌲 Tetractus Trail Ride – Forest Ridge

July 12 | 10:00 AM

Mountain bikers can explore the Tetractus trail system during this group ride featuring the 286/Crabtree trails.

  • Difficulty: 3 out of 5 chili peppers
  • Meet at Forest Ridge Park Welcome Center
  • Trail conditions permitting

🍻 Bicycle Industry Mixer

July 15

If you work in a local bicycle shop, this networking event is for you.

Oak City Cycling is hosting an industry mixer with the first drink on the house. Employees from local bike shops are encouraged to connect with fellow cycling professionals.


🚲 Third Thursday Cruiser Ride

July 16 | 7:00 PM

Known as “The Slowest Ride in Town,” this monthly cruiser ride emphasizes community over speed.

Expect:

  • Less than 10 miles
  • No-drop ride
  • Beginner friendly
  • Social atmosphere
  • All bike types welcome

Gather at 7 PM with rollout around 7:30 PM.


🌳 Tetractus Group Ride

July 26 | 10:00 AM

Another opportunity to explore local mountain bike trails.

The exact trailhead and parking location will be announced closer to the event based on trail conditions. Details Here.


❤️ Hands-Only CPR & AED Class

July 30 | 5:30 PM – 7:00 PM

Oak City Cycling closes out the month by offering a free public safety class covering:

  • Hands-only CPR
  • AED use
  • Emergency response
  • Calling 911
  • Public safety best practices

This is a non-certification educational course, and registration is required.
