Looking for a unique way to celebrate Independence Day in Raleigh? Pure Life Theatre Company, in collaboration with the City of Raleigh and Seed Art Share, invites residents and visitors to enjoy a free, family-friendly afternoon of music, poetry, art, and community connection during Hair in Concert & Spoken Word on Saturday, July 4, 2026.

The event takes place from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Fred Fletcher Park, located at 820 Clay Street in Raleigh.

Inspired by the timeless themes of peace, love, community, and social change found in the groundbreaking musical Hair, this special Independence Day gathering brings together artists, performers, families, nonprofit organizations, and community partners for an engaging celebration in one of Raleigh’s most beloved parks.

Family-Friendly Activities and Community Engagement

Beginning at 3:00 PM, attendees can explore a variety of interactive experiences throughout the park. Local arts organizations, community groups, and nonprofit partners will be on-site sharing information and opportunities for engagement.

Families with children can enjoy free hands-on creative activities provided by Seed Art Share from 3:00 PM until 6:30 PM, making this event a great option for all ages.

Spoken Word Featuring NC Poet Laureate Dasan Ahanu

The event will showcase powerful spoken-word performances from an impressive lineup of regional artists, including:

• Dasan Ahanu, 2023 North Carolina Poet Laureate
• Ajani Kambon
• Kamile Sabali
• Brenda Bailey

Their performances will explore themes of community, identity, inspiration, and social change, creating meaningful moments of reflection and connection.

Hair in Concert Begins at 6:30 PM

The evening’s featured presentation, Hair in Concert, begins at 6:30 PM and celebrates the enduring cultural impact of the iconic musical.

Audience members can expect an uplifting performance filled with music, storytelling, and community participation. The event concludes with participatory singing and dancing, inviting everyone to come together in celebration.
