Dorothea Dix Park offers another week of free and engaging outdoor activities in Raleigh, including yoga, a dog-friendly social hour, a community drum circle and an early-morning bird-watching program.

Whether you want to exercise outdoors, spend time with your dog or explore the park’s wildlife, here’s what is happening at Dix Park from August 3–8, 2026.

Yoga in the Park

Begin the week with an outdoor yoga session overlooking the landscape at Harvey Hill. Participants can move, stretch and unwind during an hour-long class in one of Raleigh’s largest public parks.

  • Date: Monday, August 3
  • Time: 6–7 p.m.
  • Location: Harvey Hill
  • Activity: Outdoor yoga

Participants should consider bringing a yoga mat, water and comfortable clothing suitable for the weather. Review the event listing for registration requirements and information about class modifications.

Yappy Hour at the Dog Park

Dogs and their people can socialize during Yappy Hour at the Dorothea Dix Park Dog Park. The event offers a casual way to meet other Raleigh dog owners while four-legged visitors enjoy time outside.

  • Date: Friday, August 7
  • Time: 5–7 p.m.
  • Location: Dorothea Dix Park Dog Park
  • Activity: Dog-friendly social event

Owners should keep their dogs supervised and follow all posted dog-park rules. Bringing water, waste bags and a leash for entering and leaving the park is recommended.

Community Drum Circle

Make music with neighbors during a community drum circle outside the Stone Houses Visitor Center.

  • Date: Friday, August 7
  • Time: 6:30–8 p.m.
  • Location: Stone Houses Visitor Center
  • Activity: Community music gathering

The program creates an opportunity for participants to experience group rhythm in an informal outdoor setting. Check the official listing to determine whether drums are provided or if participants should bring their own instruments.

Because Yappy Hour continues until 7 p.m., visitors interested in both Friday events may be able to attend part of each program.

Bird Watching at Flowers Cottage

Start Saturday morning by training your eyes and ears to identify birds throughout Dix Park.

  • Date: Saturday, August 8
  • Time: 7:30–9:30 a.m.
  • Location: Flowers Cottage
  • Activity: Guided bird watching

Early morning is often an excellent time to observe birds before the park becomes busier. Participants should wear comfortable walking shoes and bring water, sun protection and binoculars if available.

Plan Your Visit to Dix Park

This week’s schedule offers activities for wellness enthusiasts, dog owners, musicians, families and nature lovers. Visitors attending an outdoor program should prepare for August temperatures by bringing water, wearing sunscreen and checking the forecast.

Event times, registration requirements and weather policies may change. Confirm the latest information with Dorothea Dix Park before attending.
