Raleigh has designated the Fourth Ward Entertainment District, recognizing the historic neighborhood’s cultural legacy on the southern side of downtown.

The district stretches between South and Cabarrus streets, and between Dawson and Wilmington streets. The designation brings together the City of Raleigh, the Fourth Ward Neighborhood Association and the Raleigh Convention and Performing Arts Complex. 

Commemorative street signs are being installed along the boundaries. The recognition complements preservation efforts including the Fourth Ward Historic Tour, an oral history project and The Magic of the Fourth Ward: A Journey Through Time and Culture exhibition at the Martin Marietta Center for the Performing Arts.

Together, these efforts help residents and visitors connect with the neighborhood’s history.
