Voters across the Triangle cast ballots Tuesday, November 3, in North Carolina’s 2026 general election. Raleigh voters returned Mayor Janet Cowell to office and approved two major city bond measures. Durham County saw strong turnout and returned several incumbents, while Cary residents voted in statewide and county contests rather than a Cary Town Council election.
Election-night results are unofficial until county canvasses and certification are complete. The North Carolina State Board of Elections results dashboard has the latest updates.
Raleigh election results
Mayor Janet Cowell won reelection, and Raleigh City Council incumbents on the ballot held their seats. Sana Siddiqui won one of the two at-large council positions, joining incumbent Stormie Forte. Siddiqui will take the seat held by outgoing at-large Councilmember Jonathan Melton.
Incumbents Corey Branch, Jane Harrison and Christina Jones also won their district contests.
Raleigh voters approve $203 million in bonds
Raleigh voters approved both the city’s $101.5 million affordable housing bond and its $101.5 million transportation bond.
The housing bond will support affordable housing development and preservation, homebuyer assistance and responses to homelessness. The transportation bond will fund road, sidewalk, bicycle, traffic safety and bus rapid transit improvements. The city plans to repay the bonds through its existing capital funding stream, without raising property taxes.
Durham election results
Durham County reported 150,784 ballots cast among 252,169 eligible voters. Turnout exceeded the 2022 midterm by more than 20,000 voters, according to local reporting.
County incumbents returned to several offices, including District Attorney Satana Deberry, Sheriff Clarence Birkhead and Clerk of Superior Court Aminah Thompson. Durham voters also strongly supported Democratic candidates in statewide races. The three constitutional amendments on the ballot passed statewide, although Durham County voters opposed them by wide margins.
Cary election results
Cary residents voted in statewide and countywide contests, but Cary did not hold a Town Council election in 2026. The town generally holds municipal elections in odd-numbered years, with the next Town Council election cycle scheduled for 2027.
Cary spans Wake and Chatham counties, so residents’ county and district races depended on their address and voter registration. Review the Wake County results or contact the appropriate county board for precinct-level results.
What happens next?
North Carolina election-night totals remain unofficial until county election boards complete canvassing and the State Board of Elections certifies the results. Canvassing confirms that votes have been counted and tabulated correctly.
